In 1973, several Sir Douglas Quintet outtakes were released in their final album from the group's classic era, Rough Edges. Sahm and Meyers continued to work together throughout the late 1970s, and rejoined with Perez in 1980 for a reunion tour and album. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the band was joined by Louie Ortega, formerly of the 1960s band Louie & the Lovers and currently of the Texas Tornados. 1971 - The Return of Doug Saldaña Philips. 1972 - Future Tense as simply The Quintet without Doug Sahm. 1973 - Rough Edges Mercury. Even so, their final Smash record, 1971's The Return of Doug Saldaña, is a special record that leapfrogs over the competition and arguably stands as their best record - the best representation of their musical aesthetic, their richest collection of music, their best collection of songs. The Sir Douglas Quintet was an American rock band active in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Despite their British sounding name, they came out of San Antonio, Texas and are perhaps best known for their 1965 hit single written by Doug Sahm, the 12-bar blues She's About a Mover named the number one 'Texas' song by Texas Monthly. The Sir Douglas Quintet is considered a pioneering influence in the history of rock and roll for incorporating Tex-Mex and Cajun styles into rock music. This November marks three years since Doug Sahm's heart gave out on him, and these two albums, reissued on one CD by Australian label Raven, document maybe the most important musical moment in his life: when he came home to Texas. 111 4, from 1970, was Sahm's swan song to the California sunshine, with Yesterday Got in the Way and What About Tomorrow exuding that Monterey mellow even better than the minute-long Monterey Sun. There's plenty of Texas, too, most notably Junior Parker's Gulf bree. Sir Douglas Quintet, San Antonio, Texas. Sir Douglas Quintet was a rock band active in the late 1960s and early.
