A Quiet Storm is the 1975 third solo album by American soul singer, songwriter, and producer Smokey Robinson. This is one of the most highly acclaimed soul albums of the 1970s. A longtime innovator at Motown, Robinson responded to the Funk revolution in black music Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Sly Stone, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green with an effective counterpoint: the stylish and mature album, A Quiet Storm. This landmark album spawned and lent its name to the Quiet Storm musical programming format. Quiet Storm. Smokey Robinson. The Solo Albums 2. Smokey Robinson - A Quiet Storm 1975. As many of his prior songs had shaped R&B and pop music, this album would have a similar effect. The title track became the namesake for a music format. The album itself had three singles hit the charts. Arranged in an intermittent rhythm, Baby That's Backatcha ran up the Billboard R&B charts to number one inside 16 weeks. It was Robinson's first number one single since leaving the Miracles. A Quiet Storm was Smokeys third solo album, released on 26 March 1975, and by far and away his best to that point. The first two were not without their moments, but it seemed as if Smokey was reaching for a style that only really coalesced here. Smokey Robinson could have been accused of over-optimism when he wrote ʻHappy Love Theme From Lady Sings The Blues, basing it on Michel Legrands theme from the movie but not until after the movie had been completed, reputedly to Berry Gordys chagrin as he was highly impressed with the song.
